Huákinthos

A Spartan Prince said to be amongst the most beautiful of mortal youths. He had a short-lived love affair with Thamyris; but his most famous affair was with the God Apollo. Apollo was teaching his love how to throw a discus, which returned to the earth and rebounded, striking him on the head and killing him. The hyacinth flower was said to have grown from the blood that fell from Huákinthos’ wound. In some myths it is said that the discus accident was caused by Zephyrus, the West Wind – who was also enamored with him – but was angry he had chosen Apollo over himself.
